Used Cars for Sale - Finding Quality Used Autos Online

Despite the best efforts of car makers to produce all encompassing, multi-purpose, automobiles to cater for the taste ranging from the young and single, the fast paced corporate figure, right down to the dotting mother of four on school runs, not everyone is taken by the latest fuel-sipping, all efficient, models. These days of car makers amalgamating, taking over its competitors and the outsourcing of talents, it is becoming difficult to stand out in a sea of well-designed, but ultimately, cold and mundane cars.

Production lines method in making cars push for better use of facilities and limited resources, but it also spells the death of interesting cars replaced by lifeless models; cars that do little to inspire or excite. Without pointing any fingers, car makers nowadays are less incline to explore adventurous design or technology in the process of producing their mainstream models for fear of failures and plummeting sales. In the end, one car start to look like the other, with only the badge providing the identity.

There are, of course, some truly great cars around albeit in the higher price bracket. Top cat must be the superb Buggati Veyron with its cool USD1.7million price tag, or the equally intoxicating but way cheaper Audi R8 coupe, carrying a USD110,000 price tag. There are also models which are brilliant on their accord and still within reach of the masses, such as the charming Fiat 500 at USD19,000 or thereabouts or the equally chic Mini Cooper at about USD25,000, but the number remains very little.

The only other avenue for finding value for money where automobiles are concerned would be to look for cheap used cars instead. There several avenues available for someone looking for a cheaper form of private transportation - bicycles being the most inexpensive albeit out of context - and one such involved surfing the Internet. The advent of the World Wide Web has shrunk the world considerably and made everyone a potential buyer as well as seller. There is no real need for any technical knowledge, with portals available at every nook and corner of the Web, providing ease of use for everyone. A major player would be the eBay Motors which keeps a whole list of used cars for sale, complete with pictures of what they look like with a price tag, that is often negotiable.

A major advantage of the internet is its accessibility especially in searching for a particular make or model. One could search according to criteria which matters most to them, for example the year, the pricing and the range of mileage comfortable with, all on sites like e Bay Motors. With a whole list of database available from throughout the country, all it needs for someone to arrive at the exact unit he or she wants is the patience to go through the wealth of information within. Be it a sedan, a minivan or the highly popular Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV), the one sought should be there.

Pricing for used autos could range from a cool USD32,000 for a 1991 Bentley Turbo R, or USD10,000 for a 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, with a 5.7L V-8 engine in its bay, or USD6,500 for an 18 year old BMW 750i with a smooth V12; one can certainly go lower down the range to cars costing less than USD1,000 if such a unit exist. The vintage car market is another area which has taken opportunity of the flexibility and relative low cost of the internet as a marketing tool. With vintage car enthusiasts coming from the furthers reach of the globe, the Internet has allowed the exchanging of information on a global basis. You don’t even need to be residing in the United States to buy a 1950 Chrysler Imperial or a 1957 Austin Sedan Delivery, or a classic 1954 Cadillac DeVille & DTS, Series 62, for that matter.

There is however a downside to all this wonderful scenario. After all the surfing and looking at each an every single item presented by the sellers, the crux of the matter still remains that the buyer would still have to view the car as to seal the deal. Glossy pictures notwithstanding, there is always a chance that the real item might not be as spick and span as presented in the advertisement. What the internet does is only to assist you in finding a dealer close enough for the buyers need, before the next step in making the purchase is taken.

Unlike the success of the second hand book portal, Amazon.com, selling cars is a whole different can of worms altogether. With a much bigger outlay of cash at stake; not to mention the importance of not buying a lemon of a car, a personal scrutiny of the item is crucial, unless one can secure some form of money back guarantee. This should be applicable with the bigger, and more established dealers, but it still pays to just pop by for a look-see before making the plunge. Vintage makes, especially, are very sensitive to a history of good and regular maintenance and unless you intend to make it a center piece and perhaps, a weekend car, make sure everything is in tip top condition, especially where the engine is concerned.

Another disadvantage of buying used cars online without popping over to the dealers personally, is that you would never get to feel how the car drives before signing the dotted line. What looks good in picture might just be a rattling can of loose screws in reality. Caveat Emptor (Buyers beware), of course, but if one is well versed enough to use the internet, such basic principles in consumerism would probably be second nature.
